1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using ReadmeBot, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use the service. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and ReadmeBot.
2. Description of service
ReadmeBot is an AI-powered service that generates README documentation from GitHub repositories. The service analyses your repository content using artificial intelligence and produces structured README files in various styles.
3. Account registration
Accounts are created through GitHub OAuth. By signing in, you authorise ReadmeBot to access your GitHub profile and repositories as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your GitHub account and for all activity that occurs under your ReadmeBot account.
4. Plans and pricing
ReadmeBot offers the following plans:
- Free — 3 generations per month, 1 public repo, 1 hosted doc site
- Pro — unlimited generations, 5 repos, 5 hosted doc sites, private repositories, nightly auto-updates, all styles. £9.99/month or £95.88/year.
- Team — coming soon. Custom pricing for organisations with multiple projects.
All prices are in GBP and inclusive of VAT where applicable. We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice to existing subscribers.
5. Payment and billing
- All payments are processed securely by Stripe. ReadmeBot does not store your full payment card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
- If a payment fails, we may retry the charge and/or restrict access to paid features until payment is resolved.
6. Cancellation and refunds
- Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase.
- By using the service during the cooling-off period, you consent to immediate access and acknowledge that you may lose the right to cancel once the service has been fully provided.
- You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe billing portal (accessible from Settings). Your access will continue until the end of the current billing period.
- No partial refunds are provided for unused portions of a billing period.
7. Intellectual property
- Generated READMEs: all rights in generated content are assigned to you upon creation. You are free to use, modify, and distribute your generated READMEs without restriction.
- Your repository content: you retain all rights to your repository content. We do not claim any ownership of your code or documentation.
- Service licence: ReadmeBot retains a limited licence to cache and deliver generated content solely for the purpose of operating the service (e.g. generation history).
- AI-generated content disclaimer: the legal status of AI-generated content under UK copyright law (Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, s.9(3)) is evolving. We do not guarantee that generated READMEs will receive copyright protection. We also do not warrant that generated content will not inadvertently resemble existing copyrighted material.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the service
- Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the service beyond normal API usage
- Circumvent rate limits, authentication, or other security measures
- Submit repositories containing illegal content for processing
- Resell or redistribute the service without our written permission
9. Third-party services
ReadmeBot relies on third-party services including GitHub (for repository access), Anthropic (for AI processing), and Stripe (for payments). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms. We are not responsible for outages, changes, or issues caused by third-party services.
10. Service availability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may perform planned maintenance that temporarily affects availability. We will endeavour to provide reasonable notice of planned downtime where possible.
11. Limitation of liability
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid to ReadmeBot in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.
- We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.
